Riyadh: Saudi authorities have apprehended more than 22,000 individuals residing illegally in the Kingdom during a series of operations conducted last week.

The Ministry of Interior announced that these raids, carried out from September 26 to October 2, spanned multiple regions of the country.

Widespread violations exposed

The crackdown revealed staggering numbers: 13,731 individuals were detained for violating the Residency Law, while 4,873 were arrested for breaches of the Border Security Law. Additionally, 3,490 people were caught violating Labour Law provisions.

Authorities intercepted 1,337 individuals attempting to cross the border illegally, with 44% being Yemeni nationals and 53% Ethiopian nationals. Moreover, 37 people were arrested for trying to leave the Kingdom unlawfully.

Targeting human traffickers

The operation also focused on those facilitating illegal activities. 23 individuals were arrested for transporting, sheltering, or employing undocumented residents. Currently, 13,979 expatriates are undergoing legal procedures, while 6,683 have been referred to their diplomatic missions for travel document processing. 2,461 are finalizing their travel arrangements, and 10,943 individuals have already been deported.

Serious consequences for facilitators

The Ministry issued a strong warning to anyone aiding illegal entries, such as transporting or sheltering violators. Those found guilty could face up to 15 years in prison and fines reaching SR1 million. Additionally, vehicles and properties used in these activities may be confiscated.

Public participation encouraged

Authorities are urging the public to play an active role in reporting violations. Anyone with information can call the dedicated hotlines: 999 and 996 in most regions, or 911 in Makkah, Riyadh, and the Eastern Province.
